Defenseman Ian Cole Agrees to One-Year Deal with Vancouver Canucks

VANCOUVER, BC – Defenceman Ian Cole has agreed to terms on a one-year, $3 million deal with the Vancouver Canucks, the club announced on Saturday.

Cole, 34, from Ann Arbor, Mich., has 182 points in 748 NHL games with Tampa Bay, Carolina, Colorado, Minnesota, Columbus, Pittsburgh, and St. Louis.

He will provide a veteran presence lost by the buyout of Oliver Ekman-Larsson, who joined the Panthers on Saturday.

Stars Sign Forward Craig Smith to a One-Year Contract

DALLAS, TX – Dallas Stars General Manager Jim Nill announced today that the club has signed forward Craig Smith to a one-year contract through the 2023-24 season. The one-year deal is worth $1 million.

Smith, 33, recorded nine goals and 16 points (9-7-16) in 64 regular-season games with Boston and Washington in 2022-23. Starting the season in Boston, Smith registered his 400th career point with an assist on Oct. 22, 2022 vs. Minnesota and skated in his 800th career regular-season game on Nov. 23, 2022 at Florida. Acquired by the Capitals on Feb. 23, Smith recorded five goals and six points (5-1-6) in 22 regular-season contests for Washington.

“Craig brings a wealth of experience and leadership to our group,” said Nill. “He’s a player we’ve been familiar with over the years, especially during his time in Nashville, and we’re looking forward to having him join our team.”

Lightning Sign Free Agent Forward Luke Glendening to a Two-Year Contract

TAMPA BAY, FL – The Tampa Bay Lightning have signed free agent forward Luke Glendening to a two-year contract worth an AAV of $800,000, vice president and general manager Julien BriseBois announced today.

The 34-year-old Glendening posted three goals and six points in 70 regular season games in 2022-23 for the Dallas Stars while winning 59.1 percent of his face-off draws to rank second on the Stars for face-off win percentage. Glendening also notched 114 hits and 60 blocked shots, ranking third among Dallas forwards in both categories. Glendening added two goals and three points in 17 contests during the 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs in helping the Stars advance to the Western Conference Final. Glendening played the last two seasons in Dallas, accumulating 12 goals and 22 points in 152 regular season games.

Penguins and Magnus Hellberg Come to Terms on One-Year Contract

PITTSBURGH, PA – Magnus Hellberg signed a one-year contract with Pittsburgh on Sunday.

Hellberg posted a 5-8-1 record last season with a 3.20 GAA and an .888 save percentage in 18 appearances with Ottawa and Detroit. He also went 2-2-0 with a 2.50 GAA and a .932 save percentage in four AHL outings with Grand Rapids in 2022-23.

Lucas Johansen Helps Hershey win 12th Calder Cup

Avalanche acquires Ryan Johansen from Predators

DENVER, CO – The Colorado Avalanche Hockey Club announced today that the team has acquired forward Ryan Johansen from the Nashville Predators in exchange for forward Alex Galchenyuk.

Johansen, 30, has recorded 555 points (189 goals, 366 assists) in 842 NHL games during his 12-year career with the Columbus Blue Jackets and Nashville Predators. The 6-foot-3, 218-pound center has added 54 points (19g/35a) in 67 career playoff contests.

“Ryan is a talented, veteran center who helps our top six,” said Avalanche General Manager Chris MacFarland. “He gives us size in the middle of the ice and brings leadership and experience to our roster. We look forward to adding him to our team.”

New York Rangers agree to terms with Zac Jones

NEW YORK, NY – New York Rangers President and General Manager Chris Drury announced today that the team has agreed to terms with defenseman Zac Jones on a two-year contract extension.

Jones, 22, split his 2022-23 season between the Rangers and Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League (AHL). At the AHL level, the Richmond, Virginia native recorded 31 points (8G-23A) in 54 games and a plus-16 rating. Among Wolf Pack defensemen, he ranked first in goals and second in assists and points. In the Calder Cup Playoffs, Jones added six points (2G-4A) in nine games, leading team defensemen in assists and points. With New York in 2022-23, he posted one goal and one assist for two points in 16 games, his goal being a game-winning tally.

Jets sign forward Fabian Wagner to a three-year, entry-level contract

WINNIPEG, MB – The Winnipeg Jets announced today they have signed their 2022 sixth-round pick (175th overall) Fabian Wagner to a three-year, entry-level contract with an average annual value in the NHL of $858,333. Wagner is scheduled to join the 2023 Winnipeg Jets Development Camp, which will be held from July 4 – 8 at hockey for all centre.

Wagner, 19, spent the 2022-23 season in Sweden and played for Linkoping’s SHL and junior squads. The Nykoping, Sweden native played 22 games for the Linkoping SHL team. Wagner added 33 games for the Linkoping J-20 team where he recorded 33 points (11G, 22A) and eight penalty minutes before adding an assist in four playoff games.
