Jack Campbell Nominated for 2019 Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy

LOS ANGELES, CA – The Los Angeles chapter of the Professional Hockey Writers’ Association (PHWA) on Thursday announced that goaltender Jack Campbell is the LA Kings’ nominee for the 2019 Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy.

The Masterton Trophy is awarded annually by the PHWA to honor the late Bill Masterton, a player for the Minnesota North Stars who exhibited qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to ice hockey before he died on January 15, 1968, as the result of an on-ice injury.

Kings goalie coach Dusty Imoo has turned Jack Campbell into a top-tier NHL performer

LOS ANGELES, CA – The more Dusty Imoo watched his pupil on television, from his hotel room near the Kings’ practice facility, the more he liked it.

His pupil, Jack Campbell, came up with a memorable New Year’s Day performance that still wowed a day later. His save on Jonathan Marchessault of the Vegas Golden Knights might have been his best. The Kings tweeted out a video of it, and Imoo re-tweeted it with a fist-bump emoji.

The game was another moment of affirmation for Imoo as he’s helped rebuild Campbell’s career from the ground up. Even before Campbell’s career-best 46-save game Tuesday, Imoo and fellow Kings goalie coach Bill Ranford have seen the former first-round draft pick go from reclamation story to bona fide NHL stopper.

Meet LA Kings Goaltender Jack Campbell

LOS ANGELES, CA –

Jack Campbell had worked long and hard for the moment he’d be named to an NHL Opening Night roster.

That long-awaited moment came at the beginning of this season when Campbell was slated to backup LA Kings’ All-Star goaltender Jonathan Quick.

When Quick was placed on injured reserve after the first game of the season due to a fluke injury in practice, there were some big skates to be filled.

Jack Campbell relishing success with Kings after rough road to NHL

MONTREAL, QB – Jack Campbell was scrambling to shed his goalie gear in the Los Angeles Kings dressing room following a 3-0 win against the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday, stuffing things into an equipment bag as reporters gathered in front of him.

Beside him, Kings backup goalie Peter Budajwas in less of a hurry.

“Take your time,” Budaj said. “Enjoy it. You’ve earned it. You get your first shutout only once.”

Three seasons ago, Campbell had been bouncing from the Dallas Stars to their American Hockey League and ECHL affiliates, spinning his goaltending wheels. Now, pressed into duty with Kings No. 1 goalie Jonathan Quick out indefinitely with a lower-body injury sustained Oct. 6, the 26-year old was accepting congratulations from teammates after his 40-save shutout at Bell Centre, his first in 10 NHL games spread across six seasons.

Jack Campbell makes 40 saves for 1st NHL Shutout vs Montreal

MONTREAL, QB – Jack Campbell made 40 saves for his first NHL shutout for the Los Angeles Kings in a 3-0 win against the Montreal Canadiens in their home opener at Bell Centre on Thursday.

“I thought he was really seeing the puck well, he was really tracking it well,” Los Angeles coach John Stevens said. “It really kind of stabilizes your team, especially on the road when a team like Montreal comes hard. So he was terrific tonight.”

Jeff Carter had a goal and two assists, and Adrian Kempe and Michael Amadio scored for the Kings (2-1-1).

LA Kings Goaltender Jack Campbell’s Journey to the NHL

LOS ANGELES, CA –

On January 30, goaltender Jack Campbell watched from the bench as former LA Kings netminder Darcy Kuemper stopped 28 shots on goal to blank the Dallas Stars in a 3-0 victory.

Campbell – the 26-year-old former Dallas Stars first-round pick who played in just one NHL game in six years with that organization – tried to keep his emotions in check throughout the contest, but really deep down, he badly wanted the Kings to pull out the victory. He took part in the game as a backup because he was recalled from the AHL due to an injury to starter Jonathan Quick.

Jack Campbell Gets First NHL Win for Kings in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS, NV –

It was a moment nearly eight years in the making as Jack Campbell made 41 saves to pick up his first NHL win last night.

Campbell, selected by the Dallas Stars with the No. 11 pick in the 2010 NHL Draft, was making just the second start of his career.

“This one belongs to my parents,” Campbell said about the game puck after the game. “All of their sacrifices through youth hockey and coming to see me, and my sister, too!”

‘It’s been a long journey’ for new Kings backup goalie Jack Campbell

LOS ANGELES, CA –  The lows are easy to pinpoint for Jack Campbell.

There were those days when he would head home to Cedar Park, Texas, wondering where his career was going. Two years ago, he was playing for the Idaho Steelheads of the ECHL.

“That was pretty interesting,” Campbell said. “Obviously there were some days in Texas where I wasn’t enjoying it.”

It’s not a comment on those places or teams so much as how far Campbell had fallen since he was the 11th pick in the 2010 draft, which took place at Staples Center, where, eight long years later, Campbell returned Saturday as goalie for the Kings.
