Jaccob Slavin Wins Accuracy Shooting Event in All-Star Skills

St. Louis, MO – Jaccob Slavin had a simple strategy heading into Honda NHL Accuracy Shooting at the 2020 NHL All-Star Skills: Hit the targets and hit them quickly.

Check and check.

Slavin, making his first NHL All-Star appearance, finished with the top time in the event after hitting the five targets in 9.505 seconds.

“I’ll take it,” Slavin smiled. “Eric Staal, I was sitting next to him, and he said he was doing it a little bit this morning. He was just like, ‘Just shoot them as fast as you can. Don’t worry about if you miss or whatever.’ So, that’s what I tried to do.”

Jaccob Slavin Named to NHL All-Star Game

RALEIGH, NC – The National Hockey League today announced that Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Jaccob Slavin will represent the Metropolitan Division at the 2020 NHL All-Star Weekend, to take place from Jan. 24-25 in St. Louis. ‘Bullet’ shot makes Foote dangerous weapon for Canada

OSTRAVA, Czech Republic — In a do-or-die game where one shot might be the difference between gold and bronze, you dish the puck to Nolan Foote.

He is Team Canada’s weapon – and he will be in the lineup for Saturday’s semifinal against Team Finland after avoiding a suspension following a hit that got him ejected in the first 53 seconds in Thursday’s quarterfinal.

Rookie phenom Wright taking the lead in Kingston

KINGSTON, ONT – If you’ve watched the Kingston Frontenacs play at all this season, you already know there’s something special about Shane Wright.

The centreman sits second atop the OHL rookie scoring race with 18 goals and 13 assists for 31 points in just as many games through the opening half of his first season in the league. He plays a 240-foot game with remarkable acceleration and a wicked shot.

Behind closed doors he leads practice drills, he puts 100% into every rep of his workouts, and doesn’t cut corners. He’s a leader among the five other rookies on his team and shows them how to do what comes naturally to him: put up big points.

Ian Cole Contributing on Offense and Defense for Avs

DENVER, CO – Ian Cole was absent for the Colorado Avalanche’s first four games of the season as he was finishing his recovery from dual hip surgery in the offseason, but since his return on Oct. 14, Cole has provided the solid defense that he is known for and has chipped in offensively.

The veteran defenseman added to his point streak on Saturday at American Airlines Center as he scored his third goal of the season, but the Avalanche fell 3-2 in a shootout against the Dallas Stars.

The one point earned does give Colorado 50 on the season and makes it the second club in the Western Conference to reach the half-century mark. The Avs were playing their first shootout of the year, the last team in the league to play in a tiebreaker.

“Since Nick has joined the Frontenacs, he has been a leader on the ice and in the locker room” said GM Darren Keily. “His experience has been important in a dressing room full of younger players”

“Although Shane is a young player, he has earned the privilege of having a letter on his jersey.” continued Keily. “He has been a leader since joining the Frontenacs in September”

Local Goalie Garret Sparks Makes Good

CHICAGO, IL – When Garret Sparks was seven years old, his parents, Mike and Lisa, decided it seemed like the right time to introduce him to hockey.

They signed up Garret for the Scooters program at the Elmhurst YMCA – the same outdoor rink where Mike started playing in fourth grade and developed into a goaltender. Scooters, a program that continues to thrive today, encourages parents to get on the ice with their children while teaching the basics of skating and hockey.

“We had a lot of fun,” Mike said.

For the final session, the Scooters coaches wanted to hold a scrimmage to show off everyone’s progress. Just one problem: Every kid was a skater. Goaltending wasn’t part of the program.

With the parents off the ice and watching from the other side of the glass, a coach asked for two kids to volunteer to play goalie. Nobody moved a muscle. So he asked again.
