Perfetti combined success on the ice with success in school by setting a Spirit single season scoring record of 111 points including 37 goals and 74 assists over 61 games while achieving an overall academic average of 93%.

“CIBC proudly congratulates Saginaw Spirit forward Cole Perfetti on receiving the CIBC Scholastic Player of the Year Award. Cole’s demonstrated excellence both on the ice in hockey and off the ice in academics has set a positive example for his fellow teammates and those in the community, and we look forward to seeing him continue to flourish back on the ice in the near future.”

Cole Perfetti Has The Perfect Blend Of Skill And Intellect

SAGINAW, MI – Cole Perfetti is a very talented center who should go in the top five of the upcoming 2020 NHL Draft. He had an incredible 74 assists in 61 games for the Saginaw Spirit. He might not get back to the postseason, even though his team was good enough, the coronavirus has gotten in the way, for now, but he will soon have his day.

“Going into this year, I never expected to have 111 at this point and be on such a successful team. Have the year that I’ve had so far, and have it click the way that it has. I wanted to come in this year and bring my best and prove to the scouts and everyone watching why to pick me,” Perfetti stated.

It’s hard to say exactly where a player gets his hockey acumen from. Hockey I.Q. is so important in today’s NHL and this prospect has “it”. You can see that every time he steps foot on the ice. He does watch players in games and on YouTube. But after some digging, it seems like his education plays a big part in this part of his game.

“I think some of it has to do with being smart. I take great pride in my schooling. I’ve always achieved good grades. That kind of helps the quick thinking come across,” Perfetti said honestly.

After some digging and trying to figure out if he had a nerdy side, he remembered about a math competition that would make any honor student jealous.

OHL ‘On the Run’ Player of the Week: Cole Perfetti

TORONTO, ONT – The Ontario Hockey League today announced that draft eligible Saginaw Spirit forward Cole Perfetti is the OHL ‘On the Run’ Player of the Week with 10 points in three games including four goals and six assists along with a plus/minus rating of plus-6.

Perfetti becomes the first Spirit player to claim the honour this season, stringing together three straight first star performances as the Spirit maintained their standing atop the West Division with a pair of victories. His five assists in Sault Ste. Marie on Wednesday equal a past single game mark recorded by Vincent Trocheck (March 2012) and Marcus Crawford (January 2017) as the Spirit defeated the Greyhounds 7-5. Perfetti followed up on his career high-matching five point effort with his first hat-trick of the season on Friday as the Spirit were edged by the visiting Flint Firebirds 5-4. He rounded out the weekend with a goal and an assist on Saturday as Saginaw bounced back to defeat the Kitchener Rangers 8-2 on home ice. Perfetti became the fastest player in Spirit history to reach the 100 career assist mark in the weekend finale, bringing him to within three points of the century mark in his sophomore season.

Cole Perfetti making his mark among 2020 Draft prospects

SAGINAW, MI – Cole Perfetti loves when the spotlight shines on him whenever he has his skates on and hockey stick in hand. That, however, is not quite the same case off the ice.

The 5-foot-10, 177-pound center from Saginaw of the Ontario Hockey League would sometimes rather fly under the radar than be the subject of discussions about the best prospects in the 2020 NHL Draft.

Let’s just say he’s not completely comfortable with nicknames like “Goal” Perfetti or Cole “Perfectti.”

“I kind of get a little embarrassed when people talk about me,” said Perfetti, an A-rated skater on NHL Central Scouting’s preliminary players to watch list. “I just try to keep an even keel and keep my head level. And sometimes it’s a little weird when people are talking about you. So sometimes I wish it was just normal, but it’s all good and it’s fun. It’s pretty cool to have your name talked about like that.”

Congratulations to OHL Rookie of the Month – Cole Perfetti

SAGINAW, MI – Saginaw Spirit forward Cole Perfetti is the OHL Rookie of the Month for February, leading all freshmen with 21 points including 10 goals and 11 assists over 12 games to go with a plus/minus rating of plus-16. The 17-year-old Perfetti made Spirit history, setting a single season record for rookie goals in a season on Feb. 23rd when he scored a pair in a 6-3 road win over the Hamilton Bulldogs. Perfetti’s 28th of the season pushed him ahead of Jan Mursak (2007) in the franchise record book. The milestone game was one of four three-point performances from Perfetti in February.
