Detroit agrees to terms with Filip Larsson on entry-level deal
DETROIT, MI – The Detroit Red Wings today agreed to terms with goaltender Filip Larsson on a three-year entry-level contract. The contract will begin with the 2019-20 season.
Larsson, 20, recently completed his freshman season at the University of Denver, where he helped the Pioneers make an appearance in the NCAA Frozen Four after posting back-to-back shutouts in the West Regional. After missing nearly all of the first two months of Denver’s season due to injury, Larsson made his college debut on Nov. 24 and was named the National Collegiate Hockey Conference’s Goaltender of the Month for December, in his first full month of collegiate action, and also captured NCHC Goalie of the Week honors on Jan. 14 and Feb. 4. In 22 games as a freshman, Larsson posted a 13-6-3 record, 1.95 goals-against average, 0.932 save percentage and four shutouts. The Stockholm, Sweden, native was named to the 2019 NCHC All-Rookie Team and was also a finalist for the conference’s goalie of the year award.
Senators sign forward Jonathan Gruden to three-year, entry-level contract
OTTAWA, ONT – The Ottawa Senators (@Senators) announced today that the club has signed forward Jonathan Gruden to a three-year, entry-level contract. The contract will take effect beginning with the 2019-20 season.
Gruden, 18, recently completed his Freshman campaign with the NCAA’s University of Miami (Ohio) Redhawks where he led team rookies in scoring with 15 points (three goals, 12 assists). He also registered 12 penalty minutes while skating in each of the team’s 38 games.

Congratulations to OHL Rookie of the Month – Cole Perfetti
SAGINAW, MI – Saginaw Spirit forward Cole Perfetti is the OHL Rookie of the Month for February, leading all freshmen with 21 points including 10 goals and 11 assists over 12 games to go with a plus/minus rating of plus-16. The 17-year-old Perfetti made Spirit history, setting a single season record for rookie goals in a season on Feb. 23rd when he scored a pair in a 6-3 road win over the Hamilton Bulldogs. Perfetti’s 28th of the season pushed him ahead of Jan Mursak (2007) in the franchise record book. The milestone game was one of four three-point performances from Perfetti in February.
Predators Sign Forward Adam Helewka
NASHVILLE, TN – Nashville Predators President of Hockey Operations/General Manager David Poile announced Wednesday that the team has signed forward Adam Helewka to a one-year contract worth $700,000 at the NHL level and $70,000 at the AHL level that will begin in 2019-20.
Helewka, 23 (7/21/95), has seven points (3g-4a) in seven games with the Admirals since being acquired from the Arizona Coyotes on Feb. 8. He’s matched his AHL career high in points with 38 (16g-22a) and set a career high in goals with 16 in 48 combined games with Milwaukee and the Tucson Roadrunners.
Pierre Dorion: Prospect Erik Brannstrom is already a “Star”
OTTAWA, ONT – Ottawa Senators general manager Pierre Dorion said Monday that fans should be optimistic for the team’s future after adding defensive prospect Erik Brannstrom from the Vegas Golden Knights.
Dorion told TSN Radio 1200 Ottawa after Monday’s deadline that the team has “never traded for a player” of Brannstrom’s calibre.
Rebuilding Senators acquire one of the NHL’s top prospects in Brannstrom
OTTAWA, ONT – The Ottawa Senators (@Senators) announced today that they have acquired one of the NHL’s top prospects in Erik Brannstrom, along with centre Oscar Lindberg and a second-round pick in the 2020 draft (previously acquired from the Dallas Stars) from the Vegas Golden Knights in exchange for Mark Stone and minor league forward Tobias Lindberg.
Brannstrom will be assigned to the Senators’ American Hockey League affiliate, the Belleville Senators, while Lindberg is expected to join Ottawa for its game in Washington tomorrow.
“Erik Brannstrom is the top defence prospect in the game; simply a dynamic talent who will be a major component of our future,” said general manager Pierre Dorion. “He was undoubtedly the best prospect available at the trade deadline and in addition to his talent, he is a natural born leader. We could not be more excited to look at the future of having Erik join the other young prospects in the Senators organization. He’ll be a cornerstone player of our rebuild.”
San Jose Barracuda Sign Veteran Forward T.J. Hensick for Playoff Run
SAN JOSE, CA – The San Jose Barracuda (@SJBarracuda), proud American Hockey League (@TheAHL) affiliate of the National Hockey League’s (@NHL) San Jose Sharks (@SanJoseSharks), along with General Manager Joe Will have announced that the team has signed forward T.J. Hensick (@TJHensick). Per club policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
“T.J. is an experienced forward who has continually put up points at this level,” said Will. “We think he can add a lot to our young core and we’re excited for him to join the organization.”
In his 12th professional season, Hensick, 33, has totaled 58 points (17 goals, 41 assists), 10 penalty minutes, and a plus-five rating in 47 games with the Toledo Walleye (@ToledoWalleye) of the ECHL (@ECHL). Hensick’s 58 points and 41 assists rank first in the ECHL.
