Bieksa Breaks Down His Superman Punch, the Hockey Fight Mentality

ANAHEIM, CA – While the game of hockey continues to shift away from the physicality it used to be defined by, skewing instead towards speed, skill, and offensive creativity, there’s one name still proudly representing the old school.

Anaheim Ducks veteran Kevin Bieksa certainly isn’t the only NHLer open to dropping his mitts when things get heated, but the 36-year-old is arguably the best in the business when it comes to doing so. He proved as much this season, taking hockey fights to a new level by implementing Georges St. Pierre’s signature Superman punch

Offense arrives to raise stock on defensively-sound Dominic Turgeon

GRAND RAPIDS, MI – Dominic Turgeon knows the last name is coming up in conversation, sooner or later, and he’s good with that.

But the Grand Rapids Griffins’ second-year center is also keen on it happening later nowadays as he carves out his own niche in the hockey world.

The 21-year-old is the son of Pierre Turgeon, a 19-year NHL great with 515 career goals and the first overall pick by Buffalo in 1987. He amassed 1,327 points in 1,294 games with the Sabres, New York Islanders, Montreal Canadiens, St. Louis Blues, Dallas Stars and Colorado Avalanche.

Dominic loves him, talks to him often and has no problem being the only son of a hockey great. There is another family member who was no slouch either in uncle Sylvain Turgeon. Pierre’s older brother played 12 seasons in the NHL with 269 goals.

After Lengthy Recovery from Hip Surgery, Duck’s Kesler Set to Make Season Debut

ANAHEIM, CA – After months of rehabilitation, countless hours of skating and pushing his body to the limit, Ryan Kesler is ready.

Anaheim’s perennial shutdown center is expected to make his season debut tonight after undergoing hip surgery in June. This morning he skated alongside Andrew Cogliano and Chris Wagner at Honda Center as the Ducks prepare for the Vegas Golden Knights.

It has been a long road back for the 33-year-old Livonia, Michigan native, who says he had to re-learn how to walk at one point during his recovery process. “There have been a lot of challenges,” he said today. “Being on crutches for 14 weeks was one of them. Guys tell me I walked with a limp for three years. Just skating and getting my stride back. I feel better out there now than I did five years ago. It was a much-needed surgery and I’m glad I did it.”
